Job Title: Water Meter Operator
Hours: Full-Time (Non-Exempt)
Job Description:
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Engages in the production, treatment, storage, and distribution of water, including plants, wells, pump stations, tanks, valves, hydrants, and SCADA system monitoring.
- Test and regulate water quality to meet state and federal standards; adjust chemical feed rates, perform lab work, and calibrate equipment.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on facilities and equipment; locate, repair, and service mains, valves, hydrants, services, and pressure systems.
- Install, maintain, calibrate, and repair residential and commercial meters; perform flow and pressure tests; reconcile records; and manage meter inventory.
- Respond to customer inquiries, leaks, complaints, and service requests; perform meter readings for billing; and provide first response in the field.
- Maintain accurate logs, prepare reports, complete work orders, compile historical data, and coordinate work with other departments while following safety standards.
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree or a combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of industry experience.
- Colorado Distribution System Certification Level 1 or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Knowledge of water meter maintenance, repair, and testing, with familiarity in SCADA systems and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and related computer programs.
- Must have a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 1 year.
- When on-call you must have the ability to respond to calls within 30 minutes.

- Increase of 5% for each higher level of certification obtained. An incentive of a $.50 per hour raise is given for each additional license obtained.
- Merit Increases of up to 7%.
Hiring Range
Widefield Water & Sanitation District has five levels of Operators. Pay ranges depend on certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Pay range and title depend on certifications and experience. The starting range depends on qualifications.
- Water Systems Operator 1/D: $26.81 - $36.79/hr.
Eligibility for a signing bonus
The successful candidate could be eligible for a hiring bonus of up to $5000. An initial $2500 payable upon the WWSD’s first regular payroll date following the start date and subject to all applicable tax reporting and withholding requirements. Once the successful candidate has completed the 90-day introductory period, they could be eligible for an additional $2500.
Successful candidates will complete pre-employment screening, which includes, but is not limited to a criminal background check, drug screen, and physical.
